How I Work

I work Psychodynamically which means understanding the relationship between how the unconscious internal mind affects the external world.

I apply Attachment Theory to help you understand how relationship bonds formed with early caregivers affect present relationships.

I am informed in Polyvagal Theory which emphasises how the autonomic nervous system - especially the vagus nerve – regulates our health and behaviour.

I use Jungian Psychology in ways such as exploring the shadow side of individuals, feminine and masculine aspects of personality where there is imbalance, phantasies and dreams.

Containment:

Sessions are on a regular weekly basis to build an experience of trust, reliability and continuity.

Self-awareness:

There is a focus on reflective and creative space that can allow thoughts, feelings and experiences to be understood and thought about - a story begins to emerge that can feel more real and seen.

Choice:

A space to understand difficult experiences and with that the awareness to move from reflexive unconscious reactions when it comes to relating.

Integration:

Split-off, numbed or denied feelings which were too painful to be experienced can lead to an emptiness, through exploration and within a safe space there is a chance for integration and more wholeness and liveliness to emerge.
